SEASAC Music Festival

UWCSEA EAST CAMPUS

When people think of SEASAC - the South East Asia Student Activities Conference - they will usually think of competitive sport. And our UWCSEA campuses have had the pleasure of hosting some fantastic weekends of high-level action, from rugby to football, swimming, tennis, badminton and other sports.

But the spirit of SEASAC is not in competition, but in collaboration, in coming together to share our hard work and creativity, to celebrate excellence, all in a spirit of good will and peace-building. And it was with this spirit in mind that UWCSEA East hosted the first ever SEASAC Music Festival from 14-16 March, 2024. Schools mixed into groups featuring Vocal, Jazz and Strings ensembles, and had 48hrs to practice together before performing in front of a live audience.

In the words of East Campus Head of Music and festival organiser Lee Tisdale-McPhee:

Dear SEASAC Musicians,

A warm welcome to the SEASAC Music Festival. This festival is a unique platform for teachers and students alike, offering an opportunity to connect, create, and collaborate in a shared love for music.

At the heart of the festival is the spirit of community music-making. It's a chance for students to unite with their peers, educators, and guest directors in a celebration of musical diversity. Through collaborative rehearsals and shared performances, participants will experience the joy that comes from creating music with others.

Our esteemed guest directors bring a wealth of experience to guide both teachers and students through this musical journey. They will lead rehearsals, share insights, and inspire growth, creating a valuable learning experience for everyone involved.

It is our hope that this festival inspires a passion for collaboration, fosters new friendships, and creates musical memories that will resonate for a lifetime.

Wishing you all an unforgettable SEASAC Music Festival!

Warm regards,

Lee Tisdall-McPhee

Head of Music UWCSEA East
