OUTDOOR EDUCATION TRIPS

APRIL 2024

In an exciting revival of the Outdoor Education overseas trips, our students from UWCSEA embarked on a series of extraordinary journeys to 13 diverse destinations across Asia and beyond. These trips offered students unparalleled opportunities for cultural immersion, personal growth, and unforgettable experiences.

Please continue reading to learn about the experiences from the trips and enjoy the wonderful memories captured during the journeys.

Himalayan Rafting Adventure

A place-based rafting journey down the Ganges river where students learnt how to guide each other and the raft through a series of grade 1 and 2 rapids learning about river hydrology.

As the river runs along Rishikesh, the Yoga capital of the world, students also practised yoga every morning and explored the town of rishikesh for a cultural and religious ceremony.

Special thanks to the UWCSEA staff that went on this trip – Aidan Carr,Rebecca Thompson, Andrew Ware, Maureen Thomson and Riko.
Thank you to Snow Leopard Adventures for taking us on this journey of growth and learning in Rishikesh!

Krabi Multi Adventure

This trip involved a full range of adventure activities, all in bite-sized levels to suit beginners or more experienced students. Activities ranged from rock climbing, abseiling, caving, trekking and kayaking.

The students developed skills such as self management, teamwork, risk management, leadership as well as outdoor technical skills.

Congratulations and shoutout to the Outdoor Education Team, Progression Adventure (Pui and Steff) and accompanying UWCSEA staff – Jeremy Tong, Vicky Booth, Christopher Goodman and Jane Ang for making this amazing trip happen!

Paddle Nepal – White Water Kayaking

A ‘zero to hero’ style whitewater kayaking program that starts with pool training in sg, then lake training in pokhara, and finally a down river whitewater kayaking expedition that gets progressively more remote and exciting!

Big shout out to the whole UWCSEA Outdoor Education team for preparing this trip, staff team Nate Frye, Louise Sanderson, and leading this unique expedition. And to our top notch provider … Paddle Nepal, thank you! And to the student kayakers … you know you’ll never forget ‘river time’!

Sea to Mountain Bali

The Sea to Mountain Bali programme brought the students through an adventurous journey scaling a mountain, exploring the watersheds of Bali and discovering the beauty of the underwater world.

Students found themselves reconnecting with the natural world through these humbling experiences.

‘Suksma’ to all involved in making this expedition a success. Special mention to staff team Chee Hwa & Isabel Har for leading the trip, our partners Green Camp Bali, Canyoning Bali and Biosphere Foundation for the excellent programme PLUS the stars of the trip – parents & students for supporting the trip!

Tall Ship Sailing

Riding the high seas, the wind filling huge sails, dolphins riding the bow wave, hauling on ropes, standing watch, climbing the rigging, scrubbing the deck, polishing the brass, and taking charge of helming the ship.

This was an incredible experience and true adventure journeying and sailing on a two-masted tall ship in South West Australia.

A big thank you to our UWCSEA staff team Oli Sampson, Kathy Wood and Rachel Garcia. A very special thank you to the Crew and Volunteers of the tall ship ‘One and All’.

Wild Discovery Bangkok

The programme allowed students to build connection through journey and challenge across a variety of activities during 9 days in Thailand.

A big thanks to the UWCSEA team Trixhia Yeo and Kate Johnston for taking care of our students, and to @TheWildPlanet team for a great week of activities!
