Living overseas in Singapore is a unique experience, but we often get caught up in the tedium of everyday life. What we understood about travel was a plane ride to an exotic island with sandy beaches, to the mountainous snowy peaks, or to the hidden ruins of a city lost to the sands of time.

We would take our cameras everywhere to ensure that our memories of these unseen places would last forever.

But then COVID-19 struck and it changed our lives as fast as a click of a camera shutter.

We were suddenly trapped on this island. Travelling to school, work or a restaurant was a routine and we didn’t pay much attention to our surroundings. However, with the circuit breaker and a 'new normal' closing the door to far away escapes and all those facets of our old lives, we had the unique opportunity to explore our own backyard.

A year later, we are thankful that life has begun to resume in this bustling metropolis and that we are safe.

Though we hope for more freedom in the future, our perspective on our current situation has evolved enormously; what was once a frightening cage without travel, is now something else entirely. Our new travel is the discovery of what Singapore truly is, be it laundry hanging from a HDB estate, nature-filled hiking trails, or the interesting and diverse architecture Singapore is known for.

We have a unique opportunity to explore this country in a way we never have before. We have taken it upon ourselves and our cameras to showcase our discoveries of this nation. To capture the blurred and unnoticed moments in everyday life. To bring them into focus. To remind ourselves to be grateful for what we have and what we can do.

Epiphany is a platform for all artists within the UWCSEA community. We aim to showcase the diversity and variety of talent within our community, as this talent often goes unnoticed. The talents in our community are immense and come in all shapes and forms- photography, visual art, dance, music, film & theatre and even literature.

Epiphany provides the opportunity for students to express themselves and receive recognition for their talents. We hope this will encourage artists within the community to do what they love and pursue their passions.
